Overview
The Northern Plains Irrigation Project NPIP Stage 1 was designed and constructed in 1979 by the Sir M. MacDonald and Partners Consulting Engineers, to irrigate some 1900 ha of lands of crops within the downstream command area of the villages of Fond du Sac, Triolet, Plaine des Papayes, Morcellement St Andre and Solitude as well as to supply potable water by the CWA from the same network to the region of Triolet.
Several parts of the Project within the NPIP have in the past been upgraded under different contracts to give better and timely irrigation facilities to the plantation.
After some 40 years of operation the hydraulic control valves and flow meters on the network have suffered considerable wear and tear while approaching their lifetime.
Thus, there is an urgent need to replace those hydraulic control valves and flow meters as a matter of priority.
In this context, IA is replacing, modernizing and upgrading the old and defective valves and their related fittings and accessories, on the main line M1B2 and M1B3 and their corresponding distribution mains under the above-mentioned Contract. The government of Mauritius has allocated fund for this Project under PSIP.
